Worm Virus

Filed under: Uncategorized —— roykim @ 5:47 am

Worm is a type of virus that runs a program and spread itself without any host programs unlike viruses. The first active Internet worm that doesn’t need any human interruption for spreading viruses was the Morris Worm released in 1988. On 1999, the Melissa worm was able to spread semi-actively. A way of indicating worm viruses in a computer is when you see a screen that announces the shutdown of the system completely. However, to prevent from receiving any worm viruses in a computer, you use the “avast! Virus Cleaner Tool”. It could remove a worm virus from your computer very fast and easily. It also checks to see if a worm virus is running in a computer or not.

Virus

Filed under: Uncategorized —— roykim @ 8:51 am

A virus is a program or a piece of code that loads into your computer and runs without and runs without any permission or any reason. A dangerous type of virus is when it has the ability to transmit itself across networks and passing by security systems. First viruses had begun to spread in Apple II floppy disks in 1981 in America. On November 3, 1983, the first virus was experimented at a weekly seminar in a computer security. There are some symptoms of indicating viruses in a computer. First, spontaneous system reboots. Second, system crashes or hangups. Third, system slow downs. Lastly, hard disks won’t boot on.To prevent from gaining viruses in a computer, you first install a trustful Anti-Virus programs or viruses could enter your computer if you have weak Anti-Virus software. Second, Do not automatically open attachments and make sure that your e-mail program doesn’t open attachments automatically so that they could examine first before they begin to run. Lastly, scan all incoming email attachments or your computer might run files that have viruses also.

Trojan Horse

Filed under: Uncategorized —— roykim @ 8:35 am

Trojan Horse is a type of virus that could be a destructive program that disguises as an application.  However, unlike viruses, they can be just destructive at once. The word “Trojan Horse” originally came from a Greek history in “Trojan War” between the Greeks and the Trojans. Trojan Horses could be spread literally in ANYTHING that people finds that they desire, such as a free game in an Internet, a movie, a song, etc… You could indicate that a Trojan Horse is in a computer when these files include: “dmsetup.exe”, and “LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU. TXT vbs”. To be prevented from gaining any Trojan Horses in a computer, you first have to identify any Trojan Horse file in your hard disk or computer. Second, find out how they start and take action based on their actions to prevent them being restarted after a reboot. Lastly, reboot your computer and delete the Trojan Horse.

Phishing

Filed under: Uncategorized —— roykim @ 8:26 am

Phishing is a type of virus that are used mainly in e-mail messages that accept to come from authorized businesses that might have responsibilities with such as Citibank (bank), eBay and PayPal (online organizations), AOL, MSN, yahoo, and EarthLink (Internet service providers), BestBuy (online goods selling), and insurance companies. The name “Phishing” was originally created in 1996 by hackers while hacking AOL accounts and scanning passwords from unknown AOL users.  One way of identifying phishing in your computer is when some parts of information have to be verified or updated.  Another way is when typical phishing e-mails tell that it has come under review, may be in danger of being suspended or cancelled.  To prevent from having phishing viruses enter into a computer, you use an anti-virus software and a firewall to keep phishing emails up to date. Some phishing emails contains software that could harm a computer or track activities in the Internet without any reason.

What I did and what I learned from “Google Advanced Search”

Filed under: Uncategorized —— roykim @ 8:06 am

In ICT class, I did a few activities on Google Advanced Search with my partner. It was very exciting and learned more on teamwork. In this activity, my partner and I have searched a few words in “Google Advanced Search”. Some parts were easy, however, some parts were hard to do. In this activity, I have learned that Google has an Advanced Search to look words up. Even though a lot of people doesn’t use Google Advanced Search, I’ll try to use “Google Advanced Search” in Google (if I could). I really hope that we would be able to do these kind of activities again. They’re both exciting and hard work at the same time.

Reflection on International Day

Filed under: Uncategorized —— roykim @ 6:36 pm

Yesterday, it was International Day. Our theme was “A Day in the World’s Shoes.” Our school has focused on one of the 8 Millenium Goals, “Poverty.” D.J. was very funny and made a speech about poor people, their shelter (slum), and their sanitation (flying toilets). and did a few activities based on poverty and how they live. At lunch, I ate rice, salad, and potato on banana leaf, and learned how poor people ate while we ate luxury foods. In the afternoon, I played an activity with my 8th grade classmates about the occupation and their social level. The International Day was the most exciting day ever and I look forward to an better International Day.

Journal

When I think of the word “family,” it reminds of my family and my memories from my family. I think that family is very important and valuable to me. Even though we have conflicts between family members, our family can think ways to resolve conflicts. Sometimes, it can lead to happy endings, but it can also lead to worse situations if it’s really bad. When one of our family member is missing, the other family members wou ld feel sororow and a bit of pain. If the siblings in a family had a bad day/didn’t do well in school (by earning bad grades/problem with friend relationship), parents might get upset/feel sad.

2nd reflection (My classes)

Filed under: Uncategorized —— roykim @ 8:18 pm

In Language Arts, I learned the details on the 6+1 trait and what we’re weak at (they’re “word choice” and “sentence fluency”). With this trait, I think that I can work better on writing essays and writing assignments in class. In Social Studies, I learned more about Christopher Columbus (and whether he was a pitiable man or a hero). We also learned more on the Columbian Exchange and the exploration and the impact of exploration of “The New World.” We learned the English Colonies yesterday and their first and last establishment of colonies. In Life Skills, we learned about stress ,dealing with stress, and resolving conflicts. In ICT, I learned on making a blog (includes writing posts), making glogs & wordle, and making reflections based on our project. In Science, I learned about the change of phases (solid, liquid, gases) & physical and chemical properties/changes. In Math, I learned how to subtract, add, multiply, and divide integers/fractions.
